Abstract
This research aims to investigate the effect of using summarization technique toward students’ reading comprehension. The study was conducted to find out whether the application of summarization technique significantly improves students’ ability to comprehend reading texts. The object of this research was XI Grade Students of SMAN 10 Seluma. This research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, involving an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was taught by using summarization technique. The data were collected through a reading comprehension test, which was administered pre-test, treatment and post-test. The data were analyzed using independent sample t-test. The findings showed that the mean score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. The result of the statistical analysis indicated that the significance value (pvalue) was lower than 0.05 (0.014 < 0.05), meaning that there was a significant difference between the two groups. It can be concluded that the use of summarization technique has a positive effect toward students’ reading comprehension.
