Abstract

This study focuses on the issue of low student achievement in biology, which is attributed to a lack of interest in learning caused by the use of conventional teaching models. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students interest and learning outcomes compared to conventional learning models in biology classes for tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 06 of South Bengku. This research employed a quasi-experimental method asing the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population consisted of two enth-grade classes: X MIPA I and X MIPA 2, with a total of 67 students. The samples were selected using purposive sampling. The data were collected through a pre-test and post-test using the same design. The results of the questionnaire data analysis showed that the PBL model had a significant effect on students' learning nterest, as indicated by a significance value of 0.000 (0.000<0.05). The hypothesis esting also revealed a significant effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students' learning outcomes, with a p-value of 0.000 (0.000<0.05).
